Madelyn Correllus is a recipient of the esteemed Fulbright U.S. 学生 Program award from the U.S. Department of State 和 the J. William Fulbright Foreign Scholarship Board.

Correllus graduated from Susquehanna in December 2022 with departmental, Latin 和 university honors, earning bachelor’s degrees in 心理学音乐. Her Fulbright award will allow her to pursue her master’s degree in sociology at the University of Sheffield in Engl和, where she will study topics concerning identity, gender 和 diversity during the 2023–24 academic year.

“I’ve always been interested in the way that people think 和 how society shapes people’s beliefs 和 attitudes,科雷勒斯说. “在英国, I plan to study current social issues from a sociological perspective, strengthen my research skills 和 explore qualitative research methods.”

As a student at Susquehanna, Correllus completed an independent research project for the university’s 荣誉项目 that examined committed relationship ideology 和 fear of being single, which she presented at the Eastern Psychological Association Conference. In addition to her independent research, Correllus also collaborated on a directed research project 和 worked as a research assistant for 尼克Ungson, assistant professor of 心理学. She also performed a senior flute recital at SU 和 plans to continue playing by participating in ensembles at the University of Sheffield.

Correllus said she considered applying for the Fulbright for some time but was undecided about tackling the rigorous application process until she spent a semester abroad in the Czech Republic through Susquehanna’s 全球机遇 留学项目. It was a transformational experience for her.

“The weekend after I arrived back from my semester abroad, I was taking a morning walk by myself along the Susquehanna River when I ultimately decided I would apply,她回忆道. “I had enjoyed my time abroad so much 和 wanted another international experience.”

The Fulbright Program is the flagship international educational exchange program sponsored by the federal government. It is funded through an annual appropriation made by the U.S. 国会到美国.S. Department of State’s Bureau of Educational 和 Cultural Affairs. The program currently operates in over 160 countries worldwide.
